Looking at the databased results for previous Good Fridays, we see that the Event Factor tends to average about only 66%, and only about 55% for the GFTTs that fall in March. Most riders have not spent much time outside on their bikes, and the weather conditions can be difficult. Probably the toughest GFTT that was not cancelled was that of 2008-Mar-21 for which the starting temperature of -9°C was about 15°C colder than today, with winds was gusting to about 50km/h rather than today's which was less than 20km/h. Both days had air pressure in the vicinity of 102 kPa, and air pressure this high makes for slower times. The event factor for 2008-Mar-21 was only .3851, which means that the six of us who dared to enter were riding as if we had only 38.51% of the power which we would have in our season's best. Today will score considerably better that, and we can get some idea of the score by calculating today's performance ratios relative to riders' bests from last year. Michel Somogyi and Jules Gagnon were the only two riders to improve upon their best from last year, and that was largely possible since they only did the GFTT last year. Great riding from the fastest man and woman, Aaron Fillion (19:16) and his spouse Jennifer Stephenson (22:31). Jennifer posted a time which was 3:32 faster than the previous best women's March time, while Aaron was 1:33 faster than the next fastest men's March time.
